GROUP MINDFULNESS
Equality | Shared self-supervision | Awareness through process
Overview
GROUP MINDFULNESS is a supervision model for all people, in which every participant is considered equal• No member of the group is in the role of the expert• The process is not limited to clinicians
For online groups, a host will be selected to manage the technology.
For online groups, a host will be selected to manage the technology.
Background
This model stems from a combination of existing group supervision models, psychotherapy, the 12-step sharing model of group-based self-monitoring, process groups, and online groups across a variety of contexts.
Key principles
• All participants are afforded equal time to talk while others listen,• Participants process their own concerns, which can be in the context of issues raised by others, but from their own perspective and using "I statements"• Cross-talk, commenting on others or giving advice is avoided• The group may choose to self-time or allocate a timer, who can give a one minute warning• The time is allocated equally among participants• There should be time for group discussion at the end of the group• If there are too many participants, the group splits into two or more groups

Group procedure guidelines
CONTENT
- The content is focused on self-awareness, personal growth, development and change. It may include challenges currently being faced – personally, in the workplace, in relationships, etc – and may refer to the context of past trauma or other unresolved issues.
- The participants avoid cross-talk, giving direct advice, or directly commenting on other speakers or participants.
- The participants are required to be honest and genuine to the best of their ability, and be respectful of other participants at all times
- FORMAT
- The groups take place over Zoom, Microsoft Teams or another format that allows ‘breakout rooms’
- Each group goes for 90 minutes to 2 hours
- The groups can meet weekly, fortnightly or monthly at the same prearranged time
- The meeting will have a password
- Participants will initially be invited by the host and/or other participants
- Each group can have up to 11 participants
- Once there are 12 participants the group divides into two groups of 6 then adds new participants
- 10 minutes after the start time, no new participants are allowed to join
THE SPEAKERS
- The first speaker starts at 10 minutes into the meeting
- Each speaker will speak for up 6 to 10 minutes, depending on the number of participants
- The group may nominate a time-keeper – this may be the host – or choose to each time themselves
- The first speaker may be a volunteer who wishes to start the ball rolling
- If there are no volunteers the group host can nominate someone to begin the meeting
- Once the each speaker has finished they may invite the next volunteer or nominate the next speaker
- The last speaker should finish when there is about 10 minutes remaining.
- Then there can then be 10 minutes of open discussion
